Science:

Sleep Stages & Graph

During the night people go through 5 sleep stages: Awake, Rapid Eye Movement (REM), Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, previously there was Stage 4, but later it was combined with Stage 3.

To make it simple we’ve combined these 5 stages into 3:

Awake = when you woke up or moved a lot during the night, even though you might not necessarily remember being awake during those periods.
Stage 1 and Stage 2 = Light Sleep
Stage 3 and REM = Deep Sleep
Light sleep is the best time to wake up, because during that stage your body is the most alert to external environment and your “sleep inertia” is less severe.

How It Works

Good Morning Alarm Clock is tracking and analyzing your movements during the night to identify which stage of sleep you are in. The app will wake you up when you are in the light phase of your sleep during the set Alarm Range.

Sleep Quality

Sleep quality depends on the sleep goal you set, your sleep duration, and the amount of time during your sleep, when you were awake (the duration of the awake phases during the night).
Great - you’re sleeping like a champ!
Good - your sleep is good, but something could be improved: increase the duration, or decrease the amount of disturbances, noises, or light in the room.
Poor - you need to check if your Sleep Goal settings are correct, or sleep duration is long enough, or possibly there are too many disturbances in your bedroom.

How to Improve Sleep Quality

Set the correct Sleep Goal and go to bed on time. Try to eliminate possible disturbances in your room: pets, light, noise, etc.

Usage:

Placement, Charging and Volume

We recommend placing your device close to your body so that it can sense your movements through the vibrations of your mattress. Hint: the best place is close to your pillow.
We also recommend you to leave the device plugged in to make sure it will not run out of battery at night.
The recommended ringing volume is 50% at least.
Good Morning Alarm Clock can be used even if Airplane mode is activated. Just make sure all the previous recommendations are observed.

Set Alarm & Wake Up Range

Alarm time is set up on the main screen - this is the critical time when Good Morning Alarm Clock should wake you up.
Alarm Range is configured in the settings menu, by default it is set to 30 minutes. So if you set your alarm for 7 a.m. the wake up window will be between 6.30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., which means Good Morning Alarm Clock will wake you up gently within that period of time when it detects light sleep stage. In case the light stage is not detected, the application will still wake you up at 7 a.m. straight.

Set Alarm Sound

The wake up sound & its volume can be changed in settings.

Set Sleep Timer Sound & Duration

Sleep timer can be configured in settings, once activated it allows you to select if you prefer white noise or your own music as the wake up melody, specify volume and the desired duration of the tune.
