Instructions of Hanwang IME

 

1. Requirements& Applicable Devices

Hanwang IME, designed for Android tablet and pad, supports both capacitive and resistive touch screen, can be adapted itself for displaying on different resolution devices with Android v2.3.0 and above. Hanwang IME requests a minimum resolution of 800*600 pixels, and supports devices with dpi range from 96 to 180.

2. Functions and Key Features

2.1 Hanwang IME Supports 12 Languages

Hanwang IME, integrated with intuitive and most useful features people love most, supports Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Hongkong Characters, Japanese, Korean, English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Greek, in total 12 languages. And user can separately download and install a single or more than one packages  depend on his need, and be aware that Greek is already embedded with English package.

2.2 Exceptional Handwriting and Word Association

Hanwang IME, integrated with Hanwang latest FreeStylus® and UWrite® Cursive engine, delivers exceptional performance on recognizing continuous natural cursive handwriting of Chinese (both Simplified and Traditional), English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and etc. In addition, Hanwang IME, integrated with built-in language module and dictionary, provides word association & predicting functions and improves the accuracy and efficiency of finger-based handwriting input.

Additionally, Hanwang IME provides a great wide range of features with handwriting, such as handwriting-style adaptation, simulated pen style, a set of useful handwriting gestures, magic grid handwriting and etc.

 

Comments:

Handwriting adaptation, defined to improve the recognition accuracy through training with certain user-input handwriting style, is available for Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, English and other Latin languages. And handwriting of single character of Chinese (not handwriting of multi-characters), single letter, numbers, and string of Latin can be automatically trained while user selecting the correct candidate.

 

Simulated pen style, provides pencil, fountain pen, brush and crayon style. It also provides different line thickness and colors for personalization.

Handwriting gestures covers common control command, includes “Delete”, “Space”, “Return” and “Tab”.

Magic Grid is defined as a combination of 4 sub-grids which can be used to input different characters, to improve the accuracy of isolated characters, such as “0”, “o”, “O”, “。”, “2”, “Z” and etc.

Built-in Intellectual Language Module

Hanwang IME, with built-in HWKey® Engine and an intellectual language module, delivers simple & efficient text input method, includes Chinese Pinyin, Bopomofo input(TC), Cangjie input(TC), Romaji Input (JP), Kata input(JP), and input methods for Latin languages.

HWKey® engine enables Hanwang IME with the function of sentence-based input, association and predicting, user-defined words, reordering of candidates depend on frequency, mixed input of Pinyin and English, fuzzy Pinyin of Chinese and many other useful features.

Customizable Keyboard Layout and Font Size

Hanwang IME provides resizable QWERTY virtual keyboard for text input, and 2 keyboard schemes. User can also enable or disable the sound feedback, vibration on key typing, specify an applicable font size and etc.

Optimized Settings and Options of Hanwang IME

Hanwang IME, configured with a set of optimized settings of IME, can be easy to switch between different input methods or modes by pressing on a single button. And this pre-defined settings dramatically improved the speed and efficiency of user’s handwriting and typing.

3. Layout and Panel

Hanwang IME delivers 2 input panels, handwriting panel and virtual keyboard panel. The following are the specification of these 2 available layouts.

1.       Trigger button for switching input methods: click this button to switch to next enabled input method in loop, and the input methods are ordered with a pre-defined priority in the language list. For displaying the language list by long pressing on the trigger button #1. And user can click on the “settings” button to switch to IME setting panel.

2.       Number button: click on this button to display the numbers on the candidate bar.

3.       Symbols button: click on this button to open category of symbols panel. Users can input symbols, math symbols, facial symbols and etc.

4.       Self-defined symbols: these buttons are defined to facilitate input frequently used symbols and can be customized in the IME setting panel.

5.       Magic grid handwriting area combines with 4 sub-grids to accurately input similar characters and symbols. The bottom grid is designated to input symbols, and numbers can be written in the top grid or across these 2 grids.

6.       Hide panel button: click on this button to hide the input panel, and click on certain text field to re-open the panel.

7.       “Language icon” to indicate the current enabled language of handwriting input method. “ABC” is icon of English handwriting, “SP” is icon of Spanish handwriting, “DE” is icon of German handwriting, “FR” is French handwriting, “PT” is icon of Portuguese handwriting, “简” is icon of handwriting of Simplified Chinese, “繁” is icon of handwriting of Traditional Chinese.

8.       Next candidate page: click on this button to show the next candidate page, and this button will be dimmed when there has no extra candidate.

9.       Candidates bar: This bar is used to display the candidates and association words. Additionally, the word association and prediction function can be disabled in the IME setting panel.

10.   Magic grid for Chinese handwriting: the left 2 grids are defined to recognize letters in lowercase and uppercase (the handwriting across the left 2 grids will be recognized as uppercase, otherwise, it will be recognized as a lowercase by prior), while the right 2 grids are defined to input numbers and symbols.

4. FAQ and Techniques

1 How to enable or disable a certain input method?

         In IME setting panel, click on ”Keyboard management” item, and then click on  to add or remove certain input methods. And click on button “” and “” to adjust the order of the enabled input methods. And click on  to remove the corresponding input method. Be aware, the English keyboard is an added input method for all languages and is not able to remove.

 

2 How to switch to next input method?

Click on the left-bottom trigger button to switch to another input method, or long press on this button and then select a desired one in the pop-up list.

 

 

 

 

 

3 How to edit the recognition range of handwriting?

In the IME setting panel, click on “Handwriting input settings” item, and then click on “Simplified Chinese recognition range” or “English recognition range” to change the default settings. And user can also change the default handwriting thickness, color, pen style, pending time of recognition in this panel.

 

4 How to enable or disable the magic grid feature?

In the IME setting panel, click on “Handwriting input setting” item, and check on the option “Enable magic grid” to enable it or cancel it to disable the feature. Notes: Magic grid is defined to improve the accuracy for similar characters, such as “0”, “o”, “O”, “。”, “W”, “w”, “Z”, “z”, “X”, “x” and etc.

 

5 How to enable or disable handwriting adaption?

In the IME setting panel, click on “Handwriting input settings”, then check or cancel “Handwriting learning” to enable or disable the adaption function.

 

6 How to check on the handwriting gestures?

In the IME setting panel, click on “Handwriting input settings” then click on “Basic gesture demo” or “Extended gestures demo” to check the handwriting style of gestures.

7 How to enable certain fuzzy Pinyin?

In the IME panel, click on “Pinyin Input”, then click on “Fuzzy Pinyin Settings” to check desired sets of fuzzy Pinyin.

 

8 How to enable other features of Chinese Pinyin?

In the IME panel, click on “Pinyin input”, then user can change the default settings of output, character collection, mixed input and auto-correction of mistyping.

 

9 How to customize the quick symbols?

Clicking on “Customized shortcut for symbols” to manually re-define the most frequently used symbols in the IME setting panel.

 

10 How to enable sound feedback and vibration?

In the IME setting panel, click on “Keyboard basic settings” and check on “Vibrate when typing” or “Sound feedback” to enable this features. And end user can also select his favor scheme in the panel.

11 How to change the keyboard size and the candidate font size?

In the IME setting panel, clicking on “Keyboard advanced settings” to resize the default keyboard size and change the font size of candidates.

 

12 How to input uppercase with an English keyboard?

With Latin keyboard, shift key has 3 modes:, , , click on the button to switch between by lowercase mode, first letter in uppercase, Caps Lock mode.

 

13 How to register the IME as a formal version and enable all the functions?

To activate all the functions by enter an authorized code, and an ID is required for get the authorized code. To retrieve an ID, you need to send the ID to Hanwang Technology to generate an authorized code. Be aware, the ID is available only when the WiFi function is enabled. And an un-registered IME can only input within 50 characters due to a trial version. And any feedback about the IME is appreciated and can be sent to hw_sw_feedback@hanwang.com.cn.

5. Install and Uninstall Hanwang IME

Hanwang IME can be installed with “adb install filename.apk” or with 3rd installer. And end user can only install the desired language package to cut down the memory consumption. And be aware, the English package is request to install as a base engine. (And Greek is support within the English package)

 

On the first installation, check on the “Hanwang IME for Tablet” item in the “Language & Keyboard” panel to enable Hanwang IME. And Hanwang IME can be set as the default IME by long pressing on certain text field and select “input method”, then select “Hanwang IME for Tablet”        in the pop-up list. To uninstall Hanwang IME, user can utilize Android built-in application manager or 3rd party’s App manager.
